Sector3 and Stockport County launch fund to support local food projects

Sector3 and Stockport County FC have joined forces once again with the launch of the Stockport Food Fund, part of the #KeepStockport Caring campaign. With a total of £50,000 available the fund is aimed at supporting local projects tackling food poverty.  

One in four parents across the UK have skipped meals to make ends meet and in a report by End Child Poverty it was found that in 2019 ‘15.2% of children in Stockport are living in households below the 60% median income, before housing costs’, which is an increase since 2015 numbers. 

By working with local VCFSE’s and providing vital funds to organisations on the frontline, Sector3 and Stockport County aim to ensure money is invested in the community to support Stockport’s most vulnerable residents.  

Whilst tackling food poverty is at the heart of the fund Sector3 are also looking for projects that benefit ethnically diverse communities, reduce social isolation and increase wellbeing and community cohesion.

“Building on the rapturous support we received for our Food for Christmas campaign last year we wanted to partner with Sector3 again to help low-income families via the local services who know their communities the best.” 

There are two grant options available a micro grant offering up to £1,000 and a medium sized grant offering between £1,000 and £10,000. To be able to access the Stockport Food Fund, your organisation must be based in Stockport; be either a voluntary, charitable, faith or social enterprise not-for-profit organisation which is delivering or planning a project focused on alleviating food poverty for Stockport residents. 

The fund comes after the success of Sector3 and Stockport County FC’s fundraising and awareness campaign ‘Food for Christmas’ in which nearly £210,000 was raised to support low-income families over the holiday period.
