Stockport Live Well Fund Recipients Announced
27 organisations across Stockport have been awarded funding to support better health & wellbeing across our ethnically diverse community, young people and socially isolated individuals.
78 organisations applied to the Stockport Live Well fund, with £107,000 invested in 27 local projects. The selected projects will support positive health and wellbeing across culturally diverse communities, young people as well as tackle social isolation.
Health inequalities in Stockport mean that some ethnic minority populations in Stockport have different experiences of preventive offers. Some are less likely to access cancer screening and the uptake of certain vaccines for certain populations is lower than those in the White British population. People from ethnic minority communities in Stockport are also more likely to develop long term conditions than people from White British communities, such as diabetes.
This funding will go towards initiatives aimed at reducing these health inequalities, so that more of Stockport's communities have the opportunity to live well and thrive.
Collaboratively funded by NHS Greater Manchester and Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the fund is distributed and managed by Stockport's Local Infrastructure Organisation, Sector 3.
Funded projects include a series of wellbeing workshops for LGBTQ+ individuals to equip them with tools to look after their wellbeing; gardening & wellbeing workshops for Asylum Seekers and Refugees in temporary accommodation; drama workshops for those struggling with social isolation and more.
Jo McGrath, CEO at Sector 3 says
"Each of these organisations is making a real difference in our community. These hyper local groups and organisations know their communities better than most; and so it’s vital that we enable them to continue that impact by investing in their services with funding like the Live Well Fund.”
The Live Well Fund is part of a broader movement to create healthier, happier, and fairer communities across Greater Manchester. In it’s first year, the funding aims to build on and strengthen our existing Voluntary and Community services.
